The fundamentals of learning to transmit skills in a sustainable way

On January 10, 2018, the French government announced the creation of the Scientific Council for National Education. Composed of researchers in cognitive science, philosophy, educational sciences, sociology and economics, its role will be to inform future reforms to come and their ensure a common objective: pedagogical effectiveness. This initiative reflects the growing place that cognitive sciences are taking in the current debate on the improvement of learning at school, in higher education but also in the world of vocational training.

The way in which humans perceive, pay attention, remember information, and mobilize it in practice are of paramount importance in understanding what is at stake in a learning situation. For two decades, research in cognitive psychology has provided us with very clear theoretical elements on the conditions for successful and sustainable learning. It is high time to rely on it to change the way we learn and train.

Our aim is to translate these research results into concrete recommendations for organizations. It is in this context that we offer you a series of thematic articles focused on effective transmission of skills. Designed thanks to our scientific collaborations and our knowledge of the field, this 5-article dossier will answer the following questions:
